Real change in the lives of women, children, and rural communities

FFID is committed to improving education, strengthening community leadership, promoting peace, protecting the environment, and empowering young learners.

Our work across northern Ghana continues to create opportunities, amplify voices, and support lasting transformation within communities.

Women’s Voices Rising in Governance and Peacebuilding

Although women form more than half of Ghana’s population, their representation in governance and leadership spaces remains limited. FFID is working to change this. Through the Inclusive Governance Program, women’s networks in the Zoa community received training on leadership styles, advocacy skills, and outreach tools to strengthen their participation in local decision making.

During the 2024 election period, these empowered women became strong advocates for gender equality and peaceful elections. Their involvement contributed to a safer, more inclusive, and democratic environment in Zoa and surrounding communities. This initiative has strengthened confidence among women and positioned them as key influencers in peacebuilding and governance processes across FFID project areas.

Advancing Girl-Child Education Through Community Sensitization

FFID continues to champion girl-child education by addressing the cultural and social barriers that prevent girls from accessing and completing school. Through community dialogues and sensitization campaigns, parents, traditional leaders, and opinion influencers were engaged to strengthen their commitment to girls’ education.

Stakeholders including the Municipal Director of Education, the District Gender Desk Officer, and an FFID Board Member who is a retired educationist called on communities to discourage early marriages and support girls to remain in school. These engagements have resulted in improved attendance, reduced dropout rates, and increased support from families and schools.

FFID remains committed to nurturing an environment where every girl can learn, grow, and reach her full potential.

Building Environmental Resilience Through Bushfire Education

Bushfires continue to threaten lives, farms, and community assets in northern Ghana. In partnership with the Ghana National Fire Service and the Department of Agriculture, FFID organized comprehensive bushfire management training in the Kparigu community.

Participants, including farmers, youth groups, and traditional leaders, learned practical fire prevention strategies such as fire belt creation, safe burning practices, and early warning systems. Community fire volunteer groups were reactivated to support surveillance and community-wide prevention.

The initiative has already led to a noticeable drop in uncontrolled fire outbreaks. Communities are now better equipped to protect their farmlands, natural vegetation, and livelihoods. This has strengthened environmental resilience and contributed to improved food security and safety.

Celebrating Academic Excellence Through the Achievers Beyond Barriers Awards

FFID launched the annual Achievers Beyond Barriers award scheme to recognize the best performing BECE candidates across beneficiary schools. The initiative celebrates excellence, motivates young learners, and supports brilliant students to transition into senior high school with confidence.

Award winners received mattresses, school bags, books, calculators, and other learning materials. Parents expressed gratitude for the support, noting that it eased financial burdens while inspiring their children to work harder. The initiative has boosted students’ confidence, strengthened their commitment to learning, and encouraged academic excellence within their communities.

This program reflects FFID’s commitment to ensuring that no child is left behind in the pursuit of education and personal growth.
