About Us

Who We Are

Advancing gender equality and improving the wellbeing of marginalized populations across Ghana.

Fifty Fifty Initiative for Development (FFID) is a registered non-profit organization committed to improving the wellbeing of vulnerable and marginalized populations in Ghana. We champion gender equality through education, skills development, livelihood enhancement, and community-centered advocacy.

Since our establishment, we have supported farmers, empowered women and girls, expanded access to safe drinking water, and strengthened community participation in local governance. Our work focuses on practical, evidence-based interventions that create long-term social and economic impact.

Vision

A society where people of all genders have equal access and opportunities to resources and power.

Mission

To champion gender equality initiatives through education, skills development, and advocacy in Ghana.

Core Values

Innovation, Collective Responsibility, Learning and Sharing, Opportunities for All and Transparency and Accountability.

FFID’s work is rooted in four approaches:

Rights-Based Approach (RBA)

FFID empowers marginalized groups to understand, claim, and defend their rights. This approach strengthens equity by promoting accountability and challenging systems that exclude vulnerable populations.

Community-Driven Development (CDD)

FFID works directly with communities to identify priorities and design local solutions. This participatory approach builds ownership, strengthens sustainability, and encourages collective action for change.

Gender Mainstreaming

FFID integrates gender equity into all programs, policies, and decisions. This ensures inclusive planning, equitable access to opportunities, and long-term improvements for women and all genders.

Partnership & Collaboration

FFID collaborates with government, civil society, and development partners to amplify impact. These partnerships enhance advocacy, strengthen resources, and support unified efforts toward community transformation.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

At the Fifty Fifty Initiative for Development (FFID), we are committed to promoting gender equality, community development, girls’ education, and rural livelihood support across Northern Ghana. Below are answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about our work, impact, and the communities we serve. These insights help you better understand how our programs improve lives, empower women and girls, and contribute to sustainable development.

FFID is a registered non-profit organization dedicated to advancing gender equality, education, skills development, and community empowerment in Northern Ghana. The organization implements programs in livelihood and economic development, girl-child education, WASH (Water, Sanitation & Hygiene), and inclusive governance. Through these interventions, FFID has supported over 2,500 smallholder farmers, improved water and sanitation access in 13+ communities, strengthened VSLA groups, empowered girls in schools, and promoted the active participation of women in decision-making at community and local government levels.

FFID runs the Girl-Child Education and Protection Program (GiCEP), which increases girls' school enrolment, reduces gender-based violence, and improves learning outcomes. The organization provides teaching and learning materials, organizes Science and Mathematics quizzes, forms girls' clubs, and collaborates with the GES to address issues such as early marriage, bad peer influence, and teenage pregnancy. These efforts contribute to higher retention and completion rates among girls, while also building awareness among parents, teachers, and community leaders on the importance of supporting girls’ education.

FFID’s Livelihood and Economic Development (LED) program has significantly improved food security and income levels in rural Ghana. In 2024 alone, the organization established farmer-based organizations, trained 1,500+ farmers in conservation agriculture, provided tractor services, and supplied improved seeds and inputs. These interventions have led to measurable results, including an increase from 2 bags to 4.5 bags of cowpea per acre, expanded dry-season farming through donated water pumps, and strengthened Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs). FFID’s support enables farmers—especially women—to adopt sustainable practices, increase yields, and achieve long-term financial stability.
